Lake Onslow, Mt Teviot and the Knobby Range

The high treeless tussock plateau of Central Otago, the rough center of which is Lake Onslow, is a photographer’s paradise. Images from a recent visit are now shown at Recent Images.  Once the sun gets low the folded hills of the Knobby Range emerge in the shadows.  The almost golden tussock country creates a (sometimes) windswept vista that you have to experience.  Apart from high country farms, the odd fisherman’s hut on the shores of Lake Onslow, and the odd pylon from the Roxburgh Hydro dam the place is empty…  Reasonably easy access via shingle road can be gained from Millers Flat (take the Lake Onslow Road) but pick good weather as there may well be snow in winter, and it can get very cold…
